Description
The Gregg - Cable House - Leason Gregg bought an acre land from John P. Cable in 1879 and built a small house on it with lumber sawed at Cable's mill. The all- frame home also served as a store and was enlarged several times. In 1887, Rebecca Cole and her brother Dan bought the house and acre. A lot more to the story centered around Rebecca in Cades Cove, Tennessee.
Update: They operated the store for 8 years and eventually used the building as a residence and boarding house. Dan's wife had TB and he was hospitalized with mental illness. Rebecca raised her brothers children, ran the boarding house and cattle ranch. She owned more than 600 acres of land. She died in 1940 at the age of 96. Her home was moved from Forge Creek Road to the Cabel Mill area.
